About MotorVehicleTitleBonds.com

A single-purpose platform for certificate of title surety bonds, operated by Surety One, Inc.

The platform

MotorVehicleTitleBonds.com exists to do one thing well: issue the surety bond a state requires before it will give you a bonded title. Every state that bonds vehicle titles has its own multiplier, minimum, term, valuation source and form, and the differences are where applications go wrong. We built the statutory rules into the quote engine, wrote a page for each of the 51 U.S. jurisdictions from the primary sources, and tied the whole thing to an online application that mirrors the paper Vehicle Title Bond Application, with card payment and same-day issuance for bonds under $25,000.

Surety One, Inc.

Surety One, Inc. is a managing general agency specializing in commercial and contract surety and fidelity bonds, founded in 1995 and licensed in all fifty states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Title bonds are one of the transactional commercial surety classes the firm has written continuously for three decades, alongside notary bonds, customs bonds, court bonds and license and permit bonds of every description. Offices in Raleigh, North Carolina and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Constantin has underwritten surety and reinsurance for more than thirty years and holds the CPCU, AFSB, ASLI, ARe, AINS, AIS and CPLP designations of The Institutes, a Juris Doctor, and a Master of Arts. He is the author of The Contractor's Guide to Surety Bonds (NewSouth Books) and writes on surety and fidelity topics at the Surety One blog. The state pages on this site were written from the statutes, administrative rules and current DMV forms, and are reviewed as those sources change.

Editorial standard

Each state page cites the governing statute or rule and the official form, links to the agency, and states a confidence level where a figure could not be confirmed from an official source. We do not copy other agents' pages, and where the industry sells a product the state does not accept (there are several), we say so rather than sell it. The sureties on which Surety One writes are listed in Treasury Circular 570; state licensing is verifiable through the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and each state's insurance department. The rules dataset behind the quote engine is published at /data/title-bond-states.json for anyone who wants to check our arithmetic.
